Original tasting and review : This is Jonathan Maltus Garagiste, Bordeaux, France, 2012, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled two years from vintage date, in October, 2014. This is a blend of 90% merlot and- 10% cabernet sauvignon.
In the glass: Deep ruddy red.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows some funky, brambly wood on a red fruit base. From the aroma, seems like this will be light, but with old school elements.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact old world red fruit with a light, bright touch, showing round raspberry and some charcoal. Finish rushes with acids into your cheeks and settles clean and fast.
In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for a fresh grip.
