Review: *** $ Porcupine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Boekenhoutskloof, South Africa, 2012 = BEST VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Porcupine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon.

I really enjoyed the Porcupine Ridge syrah recently.  Today, I'm sampling the cabernet sauvignon from this same line.

Original tasting and review : This is Porcupine Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Boekenhoutskloof, South Africa, 2012, finished at 14.5% alcohol and first sampled two years from vintage date, in November, 2014.

In the glass: Deep full red, opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, lusty fruit with deep elements of smoke.  From the aroma, seems like this will be full and mouth-filling.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact purple, bright, almost inky, with definite smoky streaks.  Bright and friendly.  Fades slowly with acids that tuck up into your cheeks.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale and becomes a best value at an attractive price point.
