Original tasting and review : This is Terres d'Avignon Cotes du Rhone Reserve des Armoiries, Rhone, France, 2010, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled 5 years from vintage date, in January, 2015.
In the glass: Dark cranberry red.
On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, balanced black fruit with some oak. From the aroma, seems like this will be classic and a bit old world.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as anticipated but with a brightening purple fruit, something between lilac flowers and black pepper
and cinnamon. Clean, fresh middle with a finish that lingers a little with the lilac and some light acids.
In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, gains a plus for its varied flavors and delicacy. Good value.
