Original tasting and review : This is Carmel Road Pinot Noir, Arroyo Seco, Monterey, California, 2013, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled 2 years from vintage date, in February, 2015.
In the glass: Deep raspberry color.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows subtle red raspberry. From the aroma, seems like this will be high pitched and aromatic.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing layers of fruit compote flavors, including black raspberry, red cherry and blackberry. Few tannins, but the sip lingers by crawling with some acids into your cheeks. Not a tight sip, however, but shows a soft, lightly sweet roundness. Not quite what I was hoping for, given its origins near Santa Lucia, but a solid, if light, pinot noir.
In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
