Review: ***+ $$ Quinta de Ventozelo Reserva, Douro, Portugal, 2009 = GOOD VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Quinta de Ventozelo Reserva.

Original tasting and review : This is Quinta de Ventozelo Reserva, Douro, Portugal, 2009, finished at 14.5% alcohol and first sampled 6 years from vintage date, in March, 2015.  This ias a blend of 60% touriga nacional, 20% touriga franca and 20% tinta roriz and is aged in oak for 12 months.

In the glass: Deep, slightly muddy purple and mahogany.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, funky, slightly rubber balloon fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be old world in style.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showy bold fruit with deep red raspberry, rich blackberry and slight grainy wood.  Plenty of furry, grippy tannins to lengthen the sip, drawing out a bit of residual acid that lightly curls in your cheeks.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a big plus for old world pleasure on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, generating an easy good value nod.
