Original tasting and review : This is Rock Garden Syrah, Santa Ynez Valley, California, 2013, finished at 14.8% alcohol and first sampled 2 years from vintage date, in March, 2015.
In the glass: Deep magenta and opaque in the center.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows red raspberries and blackberry stew. From the aroma, seems like this will be fruity and easy-going.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact very much in the red raspberry style, with a layer of deeper, smoky black cherry bringing the sip along. Finish lingers with a more full-bodied tone.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a big plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Great value at attractive price point.
