Original tasting and review : This is Jacky Blot Domaine de La Butte, Bourgueil, Loire, France, 2005, finished at 13% alcohol and first sampled 10 years from vintage date, in May, 2015. Based on the Bourgueil designation, we know that this wine is predominantly cabernet franc.
In the glass: Deep muddy magenta, opaque from an inch in.
On the nose: Poured at cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, shows seriously bright, old world aromas of horse hay and fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be intense, fragrant and bringing old world with a vengeance!
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing plenty of old world blackberry, quite intense for the alcohol level and quite fresh for the decade of age.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, almost touching a plus for the cool old-world elements.
