Original tasting and review : This is Trader Joe's Reserve Lot 110 MCS Red Wine, Columbia Valley, Washington, 2013, finished at 13.9% alcohol and first sampled 2 years from vintage date, in July, 2015. This is a blend of 74% merlot, 21% cabernet and 5% syrah.
In the glass: Deep ruby and burgundy.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, succulent black fruit, with some helium wisps. From the aroma, seems like this will be full, fleshy and aromatic.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as anticipated. The sip is classic, full-throttled with bold blackberry and showing some hot alcohol on the launch. Nice gripping tannins flow in after a few seconds and grab hold of the taste for the balance. A nice lift of the ripe blackberry into your cheeks for the finish.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for classic potency on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Awesome value.
