Original tasting and review : This is Vina San Juan Merlot Syrah Tempranillo, La Mancha, Spain, 2014, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled 1 year from vintage date, in August, 2015.

In the glass: Deep magenta, almost opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows funky, deep and slightly broody black fruit with chunky milk chocolate.  From the aroma, seems like this will be full and chewy.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as suggested by the aromas.  Big, soft, fragrant, pleasantly funky fruit.  Gobby muddled raspberries, ripe blackberries and hazelnut chocolate in an upfront package on your mouth.  The sip fades quickly to a more acid tone, but leaves a memory of the big opening.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
