Original tasting and review : This is Buscado Garnache (grenache), Spain, 2014, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled just one year from vintage date, in September, 2015.
Inspired by this wine: Slowly paddling down the even slower river on a hot summer's afternoon.
In the glass: Deep black currant.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, furry red berry fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be lively and grounded.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full of vibrant and racy red and black raspberries, with plenty of surrounding padding brought by finely chopped, fluffy tannins. Whooshes into your cheeks and settles along your tongue for a leisurely finish.
In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, almost touching a plus for its lively balance. Best value when acquired at a bargain price point.
Updated review, a year and half later, now three years from vintage date, February, 2017: Softer and deeper furry red on the palate, still plenty of vibrancy supporting the fluffier core. Earns a plus on its three stars! Great value.
