Original tasting and review : This is Hoyt Family Vineyards Syrah, California, 2006, finished at 14.5% alcohol and first sampled a bold nine years from vintage date, in October, 2015. This is an unspecified percentage blend of Malibu and Santa Ynez syrah grapes. (The label refers to "Santa Inez", which I must assume is a typo.)
Inspired by this wine: By the docks, about to head out with old-timers for a day of deep-sea fishing.
In the glass: Deep brick and orange.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, subtle, old-school leather and red berry fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be subtle and aromatic.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing both depth and lightness, bringing full fruit to the palate, but an acidic, leathery overtone to the sip. Some smoke comes in with the acids to close the experience.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale
