Original tasting and review : This is Secoli Valpolicella Ripasso, Italy, 2012, finished at 14% alcohol and first sampled three years from vintage date, in September, 2015. This is a blend of 50% corvina, 20@ rondinella and 30% corvinone.
Inspired by this wine: A big group of old-timers and college students are reminiscing around the firepit.
In the glass: Deep purple magenta.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows brambly wood and muddled red fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be old school and earthy.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing layers of sophisticated red fruit, raspberries, strawberries and rich blackberries. Plenty of sweet fruit, with tannins and acids lifting the sip into your cheeks and giving it a lengthy, clean, gliding finish.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for elegant balance on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Makes this a good value by our reckoning.
