Original tasting and review : This is Chasseur Syrah, Sonoma Coast, California, 2008, finished at 14.1% alcohol and first sampled seven years from vintage date, in November, 2015.
Inspired by this wine: The neighbor's 1923 Ford Coupe is a cool vehicle - and it just sputtered and started!
In the glass: Dark mahogany with brick at the very edge, opaque an inch in.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, poignant purple fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be layered and rich.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing a deeply veined, smoky and luscious blueberry, black plums and ripe blackberry fruit. Some grilled poultry comes through in the smoke. Sweetens up as the sip unfolds, with soft tannins and hidden acids lifting the fruit into the finish.
In summary: Overall, just touches four stars for its lively ageability and distinctiveness on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Time to drink it up now, though. More than the current seven years of age will likely not add benefit.
