Original tasting and review : This is Chateau Le Clou du Pin, Bordeaux, France, 2013 , finished at 13% alcohol and first sampled two years from vintage date, in November, 2015. This is a blend of 70% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 15% cabernet sauvignon.
Inspired by this wine: Standing around in the cool evening, cooking stew on the outdoor grill.
In the glass: Deep burgundy.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows gentle fresh fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be clean and bright.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing lightly gritty bright red tannic currants up front, with the sip broadening as it finishes. The finish crisps up and finishes fairly quickly.
In summary: Overall, rates two plus stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Seems like this might settle in nicely with a couple of years in the bottle or some decant time.
