Original tasting and review : This is Navigator Red Wine, Napa Valley, 2012, finished at 14.5% alcohol and first sampled three years from vintage date, in November, 2015.

Inspired by this wine: Exploring an alien world of purple fur, hiking the comfortable hills.

In the glass: Black magenta, opaque from a quarter inch in.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows bold purple with some hints of eucalyptus and oak.  From the aroma, seems like this will be deep, bold and aromatic.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact deep full blackberry with lots of grip and tannin.  Sip pulls into your cheeks and is clenched there with the tannins, which continue to release fruit as the finish moves to a modest and layered close.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a big plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, earning this a good value nod.
