Review: *** $ Nguilleu Merlot, Valle Central, Chile, 2015 = BEST VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for bargain Chilean merlot.

Original tasting and review : This is Nguilleu Merlot, Valle Central, Chile, 2015, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled two years from vintage date, in March, 2017.

Inspired by this wine: At a summer picnic with good friends; the salads and fruits are just being served.

In the glass: Ruddy, deep mid-red.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, muted blackcurrant and blackberries.  From the aroma, seems like this will be solid but perhaps not distinctive.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact rousing crushed red berries, with depth and plenty of surrounding acids and tannins.  Sip moves softly into the background, for a somewhat surprisingly long finish.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, and is a best value when purchased at sale prices.
