Review: *** $ Chateau Souverain Merlot, CA, 2014 = BEST VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Chateau Souverain Merlot.

Original tasting and review : This is Chateau Souverain Merlot, CA, 2014, finished at 14.3% alcohol and first sampled three  years from vintage date, in November, 2017.

Inspired by this wine: We're out in back, sawing some logs for the campfire.

In the glass: Deep magenta, moving to opaque an inch from the edge.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, perky purple flumes of fire- and oak-tinged fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this may be bold and lively.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a first bright flash of lively ripe blackberry, unfolding to a deeper surround of velvety tannins and mashed dark plums.  Some acids move in for a grip on the finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale and is a best value at its attractive price point.
