Original tasting and review : This is Barrel Axe Red, California, 2015, finished at 14% alcohol and first sampled three years from vintage date, in February, 2018.  The wine is made from unspecified varietals by Wine World Estates of Sonoma, CA.

Inspired by this wine: We had such fun stomping along muddy dirt roads and coming in for hot chocolate.

In the glass: Deep mahogany and black cherry, opaque from about a half inch of the edge.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, ruddy black fruit with edges of dust and dirt.

On the palate: The primary elements are rich, silky and textured ripe black fruit, bringing along bunches of deep spices, clove, cinnamon and cocoa.  Some gritty tannins help the big sip curl into your cheeks.   Everything settles slowly leaving a clean finish that invites you back.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a whopping big plus for layers and pleasure on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  This is a very clear "best value" at its very attractive price point.
