By way of background:
We've reviewed and enjoyed a number of 19 Crimes wines in these pages in the past.  Our history of these reviews are here.  Recently, we reviewed a 19 Crimes chardonnay, named after Martha Stewart, that proved to be a "best value".  Today we have a unique sample.   Any chardonnay that sports alcohol at or above the 12.5/13% level to me is a boldly alcoholic chardonnay.  This 19 Crimes Hard Chard Chardonnay clocks in at a whopping 16% alcohol - almost closer to a typical alcohol level for port than for chardonnay!  Let see what Hard Chard delivers in the glass:

Inspired by this wine: It's a breezy day on a grassy hill above the shore, we're laying out the fixings for a grand picnic lunch for our extended family.

Specs: 19 Crimes Hard Chard is finished at 16.0% alcohol and first sampled one year from its 2021 vintage date, in June, 2022.

In the glass: Transparent with gentle light yellow elements.

On the nose: Poured at chilled cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, brings a blend of sweet pear and applesauce right up into your nostrils, with notes of cinnamon and honey.
On the palate:
Soft, velvety pear with bright highlights wash from cheek to cheek.  Just slightly hot from the alcohol, still the sip settles gently and fairly rapidly with light acids that clean up and ready you for the next sip.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for bold layers on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value at an attractive price point.
